The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, where it all began, are of course the highest level of traditional high quality performance. Sadly, in their long tenure they only recorded 3 full productions. The Mikado(1966) and (1973) HMS Pinafore are in my collection but the Patience has been lost by the BBC and has never been available to this time. There are clips from their productions in movies like The Story of Gilbert & Sullivan.

Gilbert & Sullivan For All  is a group made up of D'Oyly Carte people, including Thomas Round, Donald Adams and Valerie Mastterson who recorded highlights from 8 of the operettas. These were originally for educational purposes but it gives us a glimpse of the incredible talent and standards of the era.

The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company  is a group some of the best professionals doing G&S in the UK that primarily come together for the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival held in Buxton every year           (19 years) .

The Stratford Festival  is an award winning Canadian group that has produced 6 G&S operettas that have been recorded and are available. 

Opera Australia

is an excellent establshed company from "Down under" that often includes G&S in their repertoire.

The International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival  held annually in Buxton, England is 2 to 3 week celebration of G&S

operettas, concerts, seminars and interviews. It is a gathering of the the best professional and amateur groups and experts from all over the world. The amateur operetta productions are competitive and adjudicated. Most productions are filmed and are available for purchase and information at  www.gsfestivals.org 

Also a corresponding festival has taken place in Gettysburg Pennsylvania for the USA.
